Girls’ rooms are usually decorated with flowers and princesses and painted pink. However, you need not stick to the norm. Here are 15 creative ideas to design and decorate your daughter’s room:

1. Create Mini Art Galleries

Adorn walls with any style of art. Choose either monochromatic art or art that is filled with color. Hang fun framed art (teddy bears, cartoon characters, ducks) too. Go for an accent wall that has photos, pictures and wall decor. If she is interested in art, you could inspire the painter in her to come alive.

2. Add Patterned Accessories

Add patterned accessories, for instance, pillows with different patterns and colors or rugs full of flower patterns. The pillows and rugs should complement each other. For example, if the pillows are pink, green, and blue, the rugs can have pink, green and blue patterns. Your daughter’s room will become a cheerful play space.

3. Frame Hand-made Graphics

Craft some decorative bunting or print some graphics (beautiful pups, flowers, kittens). Frame the graphics and cut the bunting into shapes. Create a pattern from the shapes. Hang the graphics on the wall. The bunting patterns should complement them (maybe hang below them). The decorations should complement the color of the wall. You may have used this for a whimsical party, but it can literally make everyday a party in your daughter’s room. It is inexpensive and easy to make. Incorporate different sizes of poms. The tissue paper should be in shades of the same color.

5. Create a Headboard

Create a headboard with materials like MDF- medium density fiberboard, fabric glue, staple gun, and foam that are easily accessible. This will not only make you feel quite handy, but will make your daughter’s bed feel majestic. It is something that she should like to grow with.

6. Go for 3 or 4 Wall Colors

You need not stick to one color when it comes to the walls in your daughter’s crib. You can frame the center with molding and paint stripes of different colors down the middle. This gives the room a focal feature. You can also have a wall colored with green and pink horizontal stripes at the middle.

7. Go for Oversized Wall Decals

These wall decals or stickers allow your child’s imagination to run wild. For instance, a wall decal of an incomplete tree leaves your child trying to complete the picture in her mind. The wall decal should be the same color as the color of the walls. If the walls are a light shade of gray, then the wall decal should be the same.

8. Blend It All in

Paint the wall pink and green. Put stripes at the middle. Add black and white polka dots accessories, for instance, the bedding, baskets that contain toys and lamps, add pink rugs and brown baskets to hold more items in the closet, and even have pink and green toys. Your daughter’s room will be full of color. Keep things at her height, to ensure that they stay organized, for instance, benches, coat ranks, and closet storage. You can even infuse bright fuchsia and orange bedding and accessories into a white room. Add bold painted moldings.

9. Create the Sky

There is additive to paint that glows in the dark. You can get it from most craft and hobby stores. Paint stars and a moon on the ceiling in your daughter’s bedroom, or a cityscape around the room’s edge. She will look forward to turning out the lights at night.

10. Go Classical

If your daughter loves to read, the theme of her room can be from her favorite classical “ ‘The Arabian Nights’, ‘The little Prince’, ‘Peter Pan’ and ‘Alice in Wonderland’. Put pictures of the book chosen in frames, use letter stickers to write your daughter’s favorite quote from the book on the wall, and include important articles in the book as part of the decoration (for example Dorothy’s red shoes in ‘The Wizard of Oz’). Another idea is to decorate your daughter’s room like a scene from the book, for instance the Arab Castle in ‘The Arabian Nights’.

11. Get Sophisticated

If your daughter likes to do hard things, sophisticated things, go for bold prints in darker colors, for instance a trellis patterned wallpaper in navy. Couple it with coral nightstands.

12. Go Yellow and Gray

These two colors have a great hue mixture giving your daughter’s room a modern safari theme. Paint the walls gray. Add accessories, for instance yellow pillows. The bedding, pillows and rugs can have grey patterns. Add drawings of animals or animal toys to complete the safari theme.

13. Get Custom Lofted Beds

If you have two daughters who share a room, create more space by lofting the beds. Add style by painting the storage shelves pink and orange. Storage baskets can also have pink and orange patterns.

14. Make the Beds Serve Several Purposes

Have a mattress that is positioned against the wall. It will be a sofa during play time, and a bed at night. Add decor on the walls, for instance letters and drawings that match with the walls and curtains.

This design will make your daughter enjoy doing her homework. Add a brightly colored desk and industrial accents. Add an incomplete wall decal and frame some graphics to make the working space lively.
