Craft Ideas:Five simple crafts you can make for home

Instead of watching children play video games after school, on the weekends and during the summer, start a family craft time to bring everyone together. Crafts help develop hand and eye coordination, stir the imagination and strengthen the reasoning process. Allow the children to make practical gifts for their room or the home; some can be given as gifts to grandparents. Following is the list of different craft Ideas:

Personalized Photo Albums

Personalized photo albums can be crafted by children of any age. Place photos on pages with each child’s description of the day or event the picture depicts. Let each child choose the photos and what he or she will write or draw in the album. The album can become a personalized pictorial diary displayed in the child’s room.

Make Room Decorations

Use digital printing to fashion decorations for each room. Smartpress.com can turn ordinary pictures into portraits for each room. Personalize postcards, albums or have each child’s favorite pictures printed on fabric. Turn fabric squares into quilts, curtains or pillow cases. Children old enough to sew will find it exciting to make their own custom décor.

Paint Furniture

Build or purchase a wooden box; attach hinges, a lock and casters or legs to it. Let the kids paint it to match the décor of their bedrooms. Top the box with a pillow to use it as an ottoman or chair; use it without the pillow as a nightstand. Place boxes together at the foot of the bed to store linens or toys; the boxes can also double as small desk chairs for artwork or study.

Make Paper Mache

Paper mache is a great craft for children and adults to participate in. Create unusual containers for toys, coins and other items by covering a balloon. Strips of muslin or cheesecloth fabric add strength and durability to the mix. When the strips are totally dry, slowly deflate the balloon; the paper mache shape will remain. Carefully cut off a portion of the balloon and place the lower half on a paper mache stand to create a bowl. Paint with gold, silver or other paints, glitter or other embellishment. Make a box by attaching the cut off portion to the bottom with decorative hinges and a lock glued in place. Attach pictures, plastic motifs and more to create a custom box.

Jar Crafts

Jar crafts are easy and popular. Every type of jar from baby food to canning jar can be used. Use glass paints, glitter, beads, ribbons and more to decorate jars of different sizes. You can use the jars with or without the lids to hold change, small toys or other things. Use plastic jars for small children to prevent injuries if the jars are accidentally knocked over.
