DIY Season Change

The holidays are over and most of us are starting to grow tired of cold and gloomy days. Now that winter has given us all it has to offer (and we’re ready to move on!) it’s time to start prepping for the spring. So how can you start getting excited for the change of the season without jumping the gun? Here are a few indoor DIY projects to help you through the final months of winter!

Cultivate an Herb Garden

Growing herbs indoors during the wintertime can provide a great springy smell to your kitchen while giving your cooking an extra kick. Mint, rosemary, bay leaf, oregano, and basil all do well indoors on a windowsill or under a grow light. In addition to adding a touch of spring to your home now, after raising your plants, you can look forward to planting them outdoors in March or April.

Start Transitioning the Color of Your Décor

To complement the darkness of winter, we often decorate our home in dark blues, greens, reds, golds and purples. You can brighten your home and start preparing for spring by introducing lighter hues into your décor. Light blue, silver, and white are perfect transition colors, still appropriate for the chill of winter but bordering on the pastel shades of spring.

Get Your Spring Cleaning Done Early

Many of us take a tip from the squirrels and treat winter as a time to start hoarding, but just because it’s called “spring cleaning” doesn’t mean you have to wait until winter is over! Bust out of the winter blues and ditch that cold weather laziness by clearing out your cabinets, dusting off the shelves, and organizing your winter accessories for easy cleanup later. Start now and you’ll have more time to enjoy the weather once spring is here!

Make the most of your spring by planning ahead. Decide which plants you’ll be growing in your garden this year, start shopping for springtime clothes and accessories, and brainstorm fun activities you’d like to try once the season changes. Focusing on the great things that are soon to come will help you get through the dreariest of days!
