Great Do It Yourself Summer Home Décor

With summer time approaching, it is easy to get excited about the warm weather. The many exciting traditions that take place during the summer is fun for both parents and their children. However, sometimes waiting for these holidays and parties can be hard. A great thing to do is surround yourself with summery home décor that will help to give an output for all of these feelings. Here are some easy, inexpensive summer projects you can do to spice up your home décor.

Fruit Napkins

Kitchen is the first place for home décor. Taking nice cloth napkins, find some stray buttons and some thread. Stitch one of the buttons onto a corner and then base the fruit off of the color of the button. The more colorful the buttons are, the better as the color is what is really going to pop. Using the thread, simply go in and out as you sew them to look like leaves and stems. These should be sewn so they appear to look like they are attached to the button, which should resemble fruit.

Monogrammed Doormat

Many popular home décor stores feature doormats with a letter on it signifying the last name of the residents inside. However, these can be extremely expensive. A simple inexpensive way to get this look for home décor is to go and buy a basic mat at a mass merchandiser and then pick up some matching paint. Place a stencil of the desired size over the area you would like the letter to be. Use a stiff-bristled paint brush and apply the paint to the mat. This will help to ensure that the paint is thick enough and not leaving many splotches over the uneven fabric that is common with this product.

DIY Dessert Stand

When having your summer holidays, it is helpful to have somewhere to place food. There are plenty of cute stands available, but the costs add up fast. Instead, but three plates and two candle sticks from a thrift store and make your own. Spray paint the plates the color you desire and the candlesticks another. Using a hot glue gun, attach the first stick to the middle of the bottom of a plate. Glue the other stick to the bottom of another plate. After those are dry and well connected, turn the first plate over onto its top. Glue the bottom of the stick to the other glued plate and then the bottom plate glued last of all. This should be a three-tiered stand.

Fabric Flowers in a Pot

For the best home décor, using a dowel, lay it on a two inch strip of fabric and glue it to secure. Roll the dowel, gluing every now and then to secure the fabric. Make sure it is branching out at the top to give a good flowery look. Place these in a pot and use as a decorative center piece. Vary the types of material for many different colors.
