Photo Art Piece – Amazing Home Decor Project

The featured home decor craft project is photo art, specifically a framed photographic compilation of letters and numbers to represent your family name and the year you began your family, or any other combination of letters and numbers you wish. This inexpensive project is versatile and beautiful. You can create just the look you want because each piece is unique. There is no limit to the possibilities; a wall hanging for your living or dining room, a unique birth announcement, or a name plaque for a child’s room, to mention just a few.

Step 1: First you will need photographs of letters and numbers. You can find interesting glyphs all around; on signs, billboards, license plates, address plaques, and so forth. Alternatively, you can find some collections of photos on the Internet that are available to the public to be used for projects such as this one. An excellent source for number and letter photos, offered by photographer Leo Reynolds, can be found on Flickr.  Here are some of my favorites from this collection:

Step 2: Decide on a layout and choose the photos to spell the name or words you want in your frame. Use an application such as Adobe Photoshop or Microsoft Office Publisher to arrange the photos the way you like them. This arrangement could be a grid of three-by-three photos, or three large with four or more small photos underneath, or any other configuration that will fit for your project. Most programs include tutorials on making a grid arrangement that can walk beginners through the process.

Step 3: Once you have the photos in the desired arrangement, the final step is to print the photo art, either with your own printer or at the photo department of a local store, and place it in the frame of your choice. The cost of printing the photo is usually under $5, depending on the size, and frames can be found at most second-hand stores for a great price, so there is virtually no cost involved in completing this project — just your time and a little know-how. The art also makes a terrific personalized gift for loved ones that they will be proud to display.

That’s all for now, let me know if you have any other ideas.  Right now I’m looking more for pieces to complement our dining room sets than anything else!
