Easy Fixes DIY: Cement Dumbbell and Barbell

Going to the gym has its own price. Getting your very own gym equipment has an even greater price. But the luxury of time and money is not something all of has have so here is a quick and easy fix to get one step closer to the body you so desire and it’s all with the help of a little cement.Making your own dumbbell is pretty easy.

Stuff Required

  • Metal rod/sturdy piece of wood (length may vary for your purposes; dumbbell, barbell. Etc.)
  • Empty cans (paint, milk), buckets, and bottles
  • Cement, Good, affordable, easy to acquire cement

Metal Rod

The process will take a couple hours at least, or a whole day, depending on how quick your chosen cement dries and solidifies. After determining what kind of dumbbell or barbell you’d like to make, choose a bottle, can, or bucket that will serve as the weights. Remember, the size you choose will be tantamount to the weight of the dumbbell in the end but also take note that cement is lighter that metal, so making a dumbbell out of regular paint cans may weigh about 8 to 10 pounds.

Next is you have to mix cement. If you’re after a cleaner finish for your dumbbell, it’s generally a good idea to sift the cement first. Mix enough to fill your chosen weight can then fill it in to the brim. At this point, you can add weight by throwing in some rocks, stones or metal chunks together with the cement. Do this for only one of the weights for the mean time. If you’re happy with how you’ve filled the can in, just simply plunge the rod or wood through the center of the cement. You now have what looks like a stielhandgranate.

But unlike the dumbbell that can improve your arm, this will blow it right off

You’d have to wait for the cement to dry to be able to attach the other end of the weight. When your half dumbbell has dried and stabilized just repeat mixing cement and filling it in the can. Attach the other half with the rod to this to create a dumbbell and wait for it to dry before using. You can smooth the surface of with sand paper for both the cement and wooden parts.

And just as easy, you can begin working your arms out towards the perfect biceps, triceps, and deltoids you want. Same work out effects for not even a quarter of the price you would have paid going to the gym, all thanks to cement.
